ORGANIZATIONS

Below are links to several helpful organizations that, as a whole, help to better the rat fancy in some way or another. These organizations each provide a valuable resource to individuals, other organizations, and veterinary professionals. They are excellent tools and I encourage anyone seriously involved with rats, to explore them fully. If you have an organization to recommend, please email me with the web address and details. Those listed with "MEMBER" indicate the groups we are members of currently. 


National Organizations


The RSA is a parent organization for rat clubs in North America dedicated to improving the rat fancy, creating uniform guidelines for standards and shows, educating the public on the merits and proper care of pet rats and encouraging responsible breeding. CURRENT MEMBER via SMRF!! 

The NARR is a registry for fancy rats. It is a tool for records of individuals and litters in all varieties. Included in the registry is an extensive database that members have unlimited access to. The database includes individuals, ancestors, relatives, birth and death dates, and health notes. CURRENT MEMBER!! 


The RFC, founded in 1992, focuses on rats as companion animals with the goal of sharing the love of rats, promoting them as pets, and spreading information about their proper care. The RFC is maintained by 'the rat lady', Debbie Ducommun. PAST MEMBER!


The RMCA is a non-profit club for rat and mouse enthusiasts with the following objectives: to educate about proper care, promote responsible ownership and breeding, and to be open to new ideas for growth. PAST MEMBER! CURRENT MEMBER of the Florida Chapter!!


The AFRMA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit international club. The main purpose of AFRMA is to promote and encourage the breeding and exhibition of fancy rats and mice for show and pets and to educate the public on their positive qualities as companion animals and provide information on their proper care.


The RATS was founded in 2003 by Debbie Ducommun, the Rat Fan Club founder. The goal of this society is to educate people about pet rats and to teach animal care professionals the proper care of rats. Pet shops, vets, shelters, etc are all part of their mission. CURRENT MEMBER via SMRF!!

Regional Organizations


SMRF's mission is to alert the general public to what great companions domestic rats can be, to educate rat owners about the importance of proper quarantine practices, and to provide a valuable educational resource for rat owners based on RSA standards. CURRENT MEMBER!! 
RFL is dedicated to bringing good husbandry, care and ethics to the forefront, as well as being committed to improving the rat fancy by breeding to RSA standards.

NIRO is an organization dedicated to improving the rat fancy through careful and responsible breeding according to RSA standards, encouraging proper care and ownership, educating the public about the merits of rats as companion animals, and sharing ideas with others in order to broaden the collective knowledge of all fanciers. CURRENT MEMBER!!  


The MRE is an area club that holds shows and events, plus helps educate the public on what great pets rats make, and promate breeding to RSA standards.





The Florida chapter of the RMCA is one of the most diverse and exceptional groups to which I belong. They have open arms to all rat lovers, and are about education, breeding, rescue, fun, community, and more! CURRENT MEMBER!!
