Grace's Pedigree
Grace was the
third rat for us to have come from a rattery. She was the ultimate crazy
girl from day one until the very last day! She was a clown with the outfit
(ears, that is) to prove it. Grace was a wild and crazy little lady and
it was a pleasure to have known her. You had to keep your eye on this
one, though. She was into absolutely everything and she kept us on our
toes, like it or not. Along with her wild ways, she was also quite the
kisser. I think she was a pro make-out artist...she would never settle
for a quick smooch; she demanded to be in your mouth and would forcefully
enter if not given access willingly. You couldn't help but love her...really,
you couldn't!
Grace was an adventurer and was ready for anything. She loved going up to my parent's cabin, going for car rides, meeting new people, harassing the cats, harassing the other rats, exploring new places... You name it, she was game! Grace was a pro at popcorning too, which she did until the day she died. Not age nor several surgeries would slow her down. She was go, go, go all the time.
Grace became my 'favorite' rat very quickly. Her spunk and zest for life was catchy and I just felt good when I was with her. She had so much to love to share. I was always amazed by her. She took everything in stride like a champ. Like I said, multiple tumors, surgeries, and eventually, cancer, never seemed to take their toll. It made it that much harder when they finally did.
Grace was a rat that I would never have given up on and I think she knew it, so it was during her last surgery that she made the decision for us. She finally needed to rest and was not recovering from the surgery, so we decided to let her go. Her own body made the choice for us, but I will always miss Grace. No other rat will ever take her place in my thoughts and in my heart. She is very much alive to me and I can picture her today raising hell at the Rainbow Bridge!
