January 9, 2006 - Neutered. Weight 14.63oz. (0.91lb.). On Baytril and Metacam post-op. Cost of procedure and meds $112.00.
May 16, 2006 - Weight 16.5oz. (1.03lb.).
September 5, 2006 - Weight 17oz (1.06lb.).
October 26, 2006 - Lethargy, abdominal pain, and dehydration noted from the evening before. Vet administered fluid bolsters and antibiotic. Stool checked and abdomen palpated. No abnormalities found. Cost of visit $42.40.
October 27, 2006 - No
sign of improvement, so exploratory surgery was performed. Surgery
revealed necrotic lesions over nearly the entire length of large
intestine. There was no option for treatment, so euthanasia was elected.
The vet could find no physical explanation to indicate the cause, so
sections of the intestine were sent in for histopath. Results indicated
only that there was bacteria, pus, i
nflammation, and necrosis of tissue.
There were no abnormal cell growths or foreign bacteria in the culture,
and the underlying cause was not determined. On full necropsy, all other tissues were
clean and healthy. Cost of
surgery, euthanasia, and necropsy $389.00. After speaking with a couple
'experts', it was concluded that even in people, the cause of ulcerative
colitis is unknown.
